The Days and Nights of House Corinthyen

Interlude: 5 O'Clock at the Grand Chameleon

In Which Our Merry Band Regroups And Has A Drink

The bell tower at the Grand Chameleon tolls the hour as Areon Grael, Giselle Montkillier, Mattyw Lews, and Onri Doryc gather at a table in a quieter corner of the spacious old tavern.

That afternoon, Onri visits the Blacksmith and his daughter for a late lunch. The fare is simple, but hearty and plentiful, and the smith seems to have partially recovered from his earlier shock. The smith’s daughter is able to provide Onri with a cursory description of the man who paid her.

“He was very tall, and very very thin,” she says. “He had dark skin, like he spent a lot of time in the sun, even for a Dornishman, and a full head of oily black hair. Oh, and this weird tattoo of a red hand on his left arm.”

On his way to the Inn, Mattyw investigates the contents of the lockbox and the pocket book. The pocket book’s pages contain various lists, followed by paragraph blocks, and occasionally additional lists. The writing is in, presumably, Braavosi. {Mattyw: Cunning: 7: Failure} It’s not immediately clear to Mattyw what the pocket book means.

{Mattyw: Thievery: 8: Failure} His mind still somewhat muddied from poison, Mattyw is unable to open the lockbox at this time. He resolves to try again when he is feeling better.

Giselle explains to everyone how she has committed herself – and by extension, House Corinthyen – to finding the missing daughter as soon as possible. She also fills everyone in on the whole dagger story so they know how that has played out, although she make small mention of their dealing with Madam Kestrel.

Mattyw, despite looking quite miserable, flashes a grin at Giselle. “I’m glad that Miss Kestrel was able to help you both out! I feared you would have to get into bed with Odious, but that makes things much simpler.”

He cradles his head in his hands, sipping at his drink as he quietly lets the group in on his exploits over the past day – starting with the attempt to get Onri out of trouble by impersonating a priest, then straight up and through the robbery, complete with conspiratorial whispers and winks. He leaves out the part after he was concussed, feeling that tales of giant crabs wouldn’t instill the greatest confidence in his abilities.

He finishes the story by placing some of the articles he lifted from the boat onto the table – the ledger and three vials. He keeps the rest, a dragon medallion, a lavish ring, a leather-bound pocket book, and an ornate lockbox.

Areon will let Giselle inform the others of their activities, however, he will point out what he noticed on leaving. “On leaving our meeting, I couldn’t help but notice that it looks like Lugus – or at least Piper – is supplementing their own guard with mercenaries. Not sure if that will matter to us, but we shouldn’t under estimate their numbers, should tensions escalate.”

Onri relates everything he discovered, as well as the fact that they now have a potential inside man against the Dannet plot

The main thing Giselle needs to get across is that she has committed herself (and by extension, House Corinthyen) to finding the missing daughter as soon as possible after the festivities. She will fill everyone in on the whole dagger story so they know how this played out…leaving out the implied level of “friendship” between Mattyw and the mistress that helped her along the way.

//I will have to go read over your exploits, Rase. They sound…interesting haha. I will admit I was not reading them as they went along…they did seem to be extensive, but I thought since Giselle wasn’t there, maybe I should keep my nose elsewhere as well. Me go looky (in the morning maybe…soon, anyway).

//Onri will visit the blacksmith and his daughter, to find out who put her up to accusing him; mainly he wants to know if she could identify the person, or if Onri can figure out who the person was based on the description.

Onri will relate everything he discovered, as well as the fact that they now have a potential inside man against the Dannet plot.

//Updates! FYI: I am going to be AFK until…let’s play it safe and say Monday, AUgust 13th. Feel free to take this time to make plans using the information you have gained, or to spend some time developing your characters in the Tavern Games section – I will be awarding Experience again soon, and the posts you make there will count in your favor.

//Okay, roll call – does anyone want to do anything besides continue straight on to the welcome feast? If not, I’ll assume that you all are bathing and changing into your new finery, and otherwise preparing to try and make good impressions.

//Aside from desperately trying to clear his head, Mattyw would simply try and get ready for the welcome feast.

//As long as everyone knows I’ve committed us to something on the way home and doesn’t want to dispute it, I’m good to continue.

//Also, I’ll be off-grid starting tomorrow until next Monday. Bad timing, I know, but I’m in airports and seminars that I don’t want to be in.

//Oh no! Not the dreaded Airport seminar!!!!

//Sounds good to me. Time to put on some fancypants.

//Same, i’m willing to continue on.
